Top 5 Gyms in Vienna with Free Trial or Cheap Day Passes

If you’re looking for the top 5 gyms in Vienna where you can train without committing to a long-term membership, this guide has you covered. Whether you’re visiting for a few days or just want to try a new spot, I’ve tested some of the most accessible and affordable gyms across the city.

Vienna makes it surprisingly easy to stay active while traveling, with everything from free trial sessions to flexible day passes. Whether you prefer structured gym sessions or more flexible training while traveling, Vienna gives you both options. Even in colder months, staying consistent is possible. Here’s how I approach winter travel fitness without relying on perfect conditions. And if you’re trying to balance schnitzel with squats, you’re definitely in the right place.

Prefer fresh air over treadmills? I’ve also put together a full guide to the best outdoor workout spots in Vienna, perfect if you’d rather train by the Danube than under fluorescent lights. And if you’re traveling without gym access at all, my no-gym travel workout shows you how to stay consistent anywhere.

I have a membership at Speedfit, and before committing, I went for the classic “first date” approach, a free trial session. I wanted to see if the vibe matched my fitness mood: not too intense, not too chill, just the right kind of “do I feel weird doing squats here?” That experience got me thinking: trying out different gyms while traveling (either for free or just a few euros) is actually a great way to stay active and explore local spots that aren’t on every tourist map. Also, you might even get a sauna or some wellness out of it.

P.S. At the end of the post, you’ll find a handy map to help you easily locate these gyms around Vienna. I also started a series about where I get my post-workout fuel.

1. Speedfit – Affordable Fitness Access

First up, your no-nonsense, budget-friendly gym with free trial sessions. Clean, modern, and efficient, it simply gets the job done.

What to Expect

All 6 locations are equipped with modern machines from brands like Life Fitness, Technogym, Precor, and Hammer Strength.
You’ll find:

  • A solid cardio area
  • Free weights
  • Strength machines
  • Air-conditioning
  • Optional extras like tanning or massage beds (for a small fee)

You can borrow a lock at the front desk (just bring an ID), but be sure to bring your own towel, clothes, workout shoes, and water bottle.

How to Get a Free Trial

Getting a trial is super simple. Just go to their website, enter your name, email, phone number, and select the location you want to try. Your free access can be used within the following 5 days. That’s it, no strings attached.

Bonus

There’s also an additional Speedfit in Schwechat, just a 15-minute train ride from the airport.

2. McFIT – A Popular Choice Among the Top 5 Gyms in Vienna

Next up, if you’re looking for a convenient and affordable gym that’s easily accessible across Vienna, McFIT might be the spot for you. Whether you’re looking for a quick workout or a serious training session, McFIT offers a clean, modern space with everything you need to get in shape. There are a total of 11 McFit gyms in Vienna. I used to be with McFIT, but switched gyms after moving to a different area of Vienna.

What to Expect

McFIT provides a wide variety of high-quality equipment, including:

  • A large cardio zone
  • Free weights
  • Strength machines
  • Air-conditioning
  • Personal training options available (for an extra fee)

Be sure to bring all workout equipment, including a lock and a small towel, as they are not included.

How to Get a Free Trial

McFIT offers a free trial workout to first-time visitors. Unfortunately, McFIT’s website is primarily in German, but you can easily translate it by entering the URL in Google Translate. From there, you can select a day for your free trial workout between 8 am and 10 pm. Once you have used your free trial, you can get a day pass for just €10.

Bonus

With a day ticket, you can enter the gym 24/7, which allows you to be very flexible during your travel.

3. FitInn – Why It Earns a Spot in the Top 5 Gyms in Vienna

The next gym I want to talk about is FitInn, a modern chain with a friendly, no-frills atmosphere that provides everything you need for a great workout. Luckily, with a total of 29 locations in Vienna, you are guaranteed to find a gym nearby no matter where you are. For several years, I was also a happy member of FitInn. Due to another move, I again switched to another gym. At this point, I should probably stop moving so much; my gym memberships can’t keep up!

What to Expect

  • Cardio and strength machines from top brands
  • A variety of free weights
  • Air-conditioning
  • Tanning (for an extra fee)
  • Low-cost supplier for gym equipment (lock €5,90, towel €5,90, water bottle €3,99 and a shaker €5,90)

How to Get a Day Pass

FitInn doesn’t offer a free trial, but for just €19,90, you can enjoy the gym for an entire day. No prior registration is required, simply head to one of their locations and grab a day pass.

Bonus

FitInn also has a dedicated ladies’ workout area and a branch in Schwechat, making it convenient for travelers arriving or departing Vienna. With both Speedfit and FitInn near the airport, you’ve got plenty of opportunities to squeeze in a quick workout!

4. John Harris – Luxury and Quality in the Top 5 Gyms in Vienna

Provided by John Harris Fitness

John Harris sits at the premium end of this list. High-end machines, proper wellness areas, and the kind of quiet, polished setting you’d expect at that price. There are 8 locations across Vienna, so wherever you’re staying, one is probably close. I haven’t trained here regularly, but for a traveler, it makes sense as a treat day, especially if your hotel “gym” is one sad treadmill and a yoga mat in the corner.

What to Expect

  • A large cardio area with machines from Life Fitness
  • Free weights
  • A wide selection of strength training machines
  • Luxury extras such as saunas and wellness areas
  • Swimming Pool
  • Group fitness classes, including yoga and Pilates

How to Get a Day Pass

A day pass runs roughly €29 to €48 depending on the location, and it gets you the full setup: gym floor, pool, sauna, and wellness areas. For a rainy Vienna afternoon, or a rest day where you still want to move a little and then sit in a sauna, it’s a fair splurge. Prices change over time, so check the current rate on their site before you go.

Bonus

You’ll find stylish lounges, saunas, and a wellness area in addition to great gym facilities.

5. Holmes Place – Premium Experience in the Top 5 Gyms in Vienna

Provided by Holmes Place Austria

Holmes Place is the other premium option here. Just 3 clubs in Vienna, but a strong focus on the wellness side. If your idea of a good gym day ends with a sauna and a steam bath, this is the one to look at.

What to Expect

  • Modern cardio and strength training equipment
  • A variety of group fitness classes, including yoga and Pilates
  • Luxurious wellness areas with saunas, steam baths, and relaxation zones
  • Swimming pools (available in select locations)
  • Personal training services
  • Nutrition and lifestyle coaching

How to get a Cheap Trial Training or a Day Pass

You can book a free club tour online, plus a one-time trial session. Last I checked, the trial was around €35 at Hütteldorf and Millennium City and about €50 at Börseplatz, though prices and locations shift, so confirm on their site first. The tour is worth doing even if you’re just curious, since you get to see the wellness areas before paying for anything.

Bonus

After a long day of walking the old town and standing in museum lines, the pool and sauna here are a genuinely nice reset. Think of it as a lighter, gym-attached version of Therme Wien.

Short on time or just want the quick facts?

In short, here’s a quick reference table that sums up everything from trial options to wellness perks to help you compare at a glance and plan your workout like a local:
