The Best Post-Workout Meals in Vienna: Districts 9–16
Welcome back to the post-sweat food tour of Vienna! Previously in Part 1, we explored post-workout meals in Vienna, focusing on the core districts (1–8). We looked at meals that go way beyond your average protein bar. Now, in part 2, we’re heading a bit farther out, into the neighborhoods where locals live, train, and refuel.
This time around, we’re diving into Districts 9 through 16. These areas may be less touristy, but they’re packed with hidden gems serving delicious post-workout meals in Vienna that are balanced, flavorful, and ideal for recovery. Crushed a session at the gym, gone trail running in the hills, or biked along the canal? These spots will help you recharge without compromising on taste.
Just like in Part 1, every pick in this list checks the same boxes: real food with real nutrients, a great vibe, and proximity to a gym or green space (if you’d rather train outside, my Outdoor Workout Spots in Vienna guide has you covered). Plus, there’s an interactive diagram at the end to help you plan your route from squat rack to smoothie bowl.
So, ready to explore Vienna’s next layer of fitness-fueled food finds? Let’s dig in. District 9, you’re up first.

Finding solid post-workout meals in Simmering isn’t the easiest mission. This district leans more industrial and residential, with fewer dedicated health spots. Still, right on Lorystraße, Samran Thai stands out as a reliable go-to for balanced, flavorful Thai dishes that hit the spot after training.
It’s not a health food restaurant by design, but the menu includes plenty of options that work well for recovery: generous portions, fresh vegetables, and the ability to tailor dishes to your needs. Light or more substantial, you’ll find something here.
Nearby Gyms: McFit Simmering.

15th District, Hollerei: Plant-Based Power for Post-Workout Meals in Vienna
Tucked into a quiet side street near Johnstraße, Hollerei is a longtime favorite for plant-based food that’s both nourishing and satisfying. This vegetarian and vegan restaurant serves up colorful plates full of whole ingredients, vibrant flavors, and serious post-workout benefits, all in a cozy, art-filled space with a garden out back when the weather’s good.
Nearby Gyms: McFIT Vienna VIO Plaza
Why it’s great post-workout:
Hollerei’s food is nutrient-dense and simple. Their dishes include fiber-rich grains, quality plant protein, and anti-inflammatory ingredients, ideal for recovery after strength or endurance training. They also offer a weekly lunch menu that’s well-portioned and affordable.
What I usually go for:

16th District, Die Tackerei: Vienna’s Most Playful Post-Workout Tacos
Right in the middle of the vibrant chaos of Brunnenmarkt in Ottakring, Die Tackerei is flipping Austrian comfort food on its head by serving it in a taco. This playful street food stand reinvents traditional dishes like Tafelspitz, Gulasch, and even Blunzen (blood sausage) as compact, flavor-packed tacos on fresh corn tortillas. The vibe is low-key but thoughtful, with a weekly changing menu that keeps things fresh and seasonal.
Nearby Gym: FitInn Ottakringer Straße
Why it’s great post-workout:
Not every taco here will suit your macros (looking at you, Käsekrainer), but Die Tackerei offers several options that are surprisingly smart post-gym fuel. Their corn tortillas provide slow-burning carbs, and when you choose leaner fillings you’re getting solid protein, fiber, and plant power in every bite. Plus, they lean into high-quality ingredients and creative pairings, so you don’t have to sacrifice flavor for function.
What I usually go for (when it’s on the menu):
- Austernpilz Taco (Vegan) – Earthy mushrooms, sweet pineapple, and fresh herbs: a light, nutrient-dense option that’s big on flavor and easy on recovery.
- Tafelspitz Taco – Classic Austrian boiled beef, paired with veggies and a touch of horseradish kick. Clean, satisfying, and not greasy.
Die Tackerei nails the rare balance between playful indulgence and smart eating. It’s one of those spots where you can treat yourself and still feel good walking out, especially if you order wisely.

Menus change weekly, so check their Instagram for the latest creations.
