The Best Post-Workout Restaurants in Vienna: Districts 17–23
After my gym session in Vienna, the last thing I want is to stand outside a restaurant reading a menu trying to figure out if anything on it will actually help me recover. Vienna has great food, but finding spots that work post-workout, real protein, actual carbs, not just a plate of bread and dressing, takes some local knowledge.
This is part three of my post-workout restaurants in Vienna series. Districts 17 to 23 are spread out, more residential, and honestly underrated for eating well. Here’s one solid spot per district that I’ve actually eaten at after training.
If you haven’t checked out the earlier guides yet, you can find great options for the inner districts here:

How I Choose Post-Workout Restaurants in Vienna
When it comes to choosing post-workout restaurants in Vienna, I usually focus on simple meals that combine protein and carbs. So just like before, this guide focuses on places where you can get:
- solid protein options
- balanced meals (not just empty carbs)
- and food that actually feels good after a workout
Whether you’ve just finished a gym session at one of Vienna’s gyms with free trials or cheap day passes, a run, or did a workout outdoors like this routine, these spots make it easy to refuel properly without having to overthink it.
Best Post-Workout Restaurants in Vienna: Districts 17–23
17th District: Cucina Ballerini
Seafood in Vienna after a workout sounds unexpected. It’s worth knowing about.
Why it’s great post-workout
While a lot of Italian restaurants lean heavily into pasta and pizza, this place stands out because of its seafood-focused menu. You’ll find plenty of lean protein options like tuna, prawns, or octopus, which makes it much easier to build a balanced post-workout meal.
It’s also one of those places where you can keep things lighter and more flexible by mixing and matching dishes instead of committing to one heavy main.
My go-to order
I usually go for the prawns with a salad. It’s simple, high in protein, and doesn’t leave you feeling overly full after training.
Other great options
- Tuna steak
- Grilled octopus
- Antipasti plates (great if you want to mix and match)

Where to train nearby
If you’re planning your workout around this spot, you’ve got a few solid options:
- Schwarzenbergpark / Heuberg area: great for runs, walks, or bodyweight workouts
- FITINN Vienna 17 Ottakringer Str.
- Quiet streets nearby if you just want to get some steps in before eating
18th District: Bollyfood (Filling Post-Workout Meal)
If you’re in the 18th district and craving something warm, filling, and satisfying after a workout, this is a great option especially if you’re in the mood for something different from the usual “fitness food.”
Why it’s great post-workout
Indian food might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but it actually works really well post-workout. You get a solid mix of protein (chicken or lentils), carbs (rice), and fats, and you can easily adjust how “clean” or indulgent you want your meal to be.
It’s also a great option when you’re really hungry after training and need something properly filling. usually go there for the lunch deal, which is honestly great value. You can pick between different vegetarian and meat options, and it comes with rice, a small salad, and even a soup, so you’re definitely not leaving hungry after a workout.
My go-to order
I usually go for the Chicken Korma. I just can’t resist it.

If I want to keep things a bit lighter, I switch to the traditional chicken curry, which feels cleaner but still hits the spot.
Other great options
- Daal Makhni (great plant-based option)
- Combination of curry + smaller sides if you want more control over portions
Where to train nearby
Türkenschanzpark is the obvious choice here. It’s big enough for a proper run and has open grass areas if you want to do a bodyweight session before eating.
19th District: Termeh (Balanced & Flavorful Post-Workout Meal)
Persian food is underrated for recovery. Here’s why it works.
Why it’s great post-workout
Persian cuisine offers a really nice balance of grilled protein, carbs, and fresh sides. If you choose the right dishes, you can build a meal that supports recovery without feeling too heavy.
It’s also a good option when you want something properly satisfying after training, not just a quick snack.
My go-to order
I usually go for the Djudje Kebab (grilled chicken skewers) with rice.

Other great options
- Kabab Barg (lamb → richer and more filling, better after harder workouts)
- Ghormeh Sabzi (herb stew with meat → hearty comfort option)
- Lubia Polo (rice with beans and meat → great if you need more carbs)
- Kobideh Sandwich (quick → on-the-go option after training)
Where to train nearby
- Türkenschanzpark – great for runs, walks, or bodyweight workouts
- Setagaya Park – nice for lighter movement or recovery walks

20th District: Vevi (Light & Plant-Based Post-Workout Option)
Sometimes after training you just want something clean and easy to digest. This is that place.
Why it’s great post-workout
These dishes are easy to digest, not overly heavy, and still give you a good mix of carbs and plant-based protein. Especially after a lighter workout or when you don’t feel like eating something too rich, this kind of meal works really well.
My go-to order
I usually go for V52 Cải Thìa (rice with tofu and pak choi).
It’s simple, balanced, and exactly what I want when I’m not in the mood for something heavy but still want something that feels like a proper meal.
Other great options
- V44a Miến Xào (glassnoodlkes with tofu, vegan seafood and vegetables)
- V55 Rau Xào Vô Lượng with tofu (mixed vegetables, slightly more variety)

For quick post-workout food in Vienna’s outer districts, the 21st is underrated. If you want something quick, warm, and balanced right after your workout, Wok Bar SNC is a super practical option, especially if you’re training nearby.
Why it’s great post-workout
Wok dishes are ideal because they combine protein, carbs, and vegetables in one meal, and you can usually keep things relatively light depending on what you choose. It’s also a great option when you want something fast and filling without sitting down for too long.
My go-to order
I usually go for H7b or the M1 (Mittagsangebot) with chicken.
It’s simple, balanced, and exactly what I want after a workout. You get protein, carbs, and vegetables without overcomplicating things.
hen I’m short on time and need something quick between training and a proper meal, DM snacks actually hold up surprisingly well.
Other great options
- H11 Salmon (great if you want a slightly different protein source)
- H6b Black Pepper Garnelen (solid option if you’re in the mood for seafood)

Where to train nearby
- FitInn SCN → super convenient, just combine your workout and meal
- Nearby gyms in Floridsdorf if you’re coming from a strength session
22nd District: Le Burger Donauzentrum (Customizable Post-Workout Meal)
The 22nd has some of the best post-workout restaurants in Vienna if you want flexibility over your meal. At Le Burger, you can build your meal exactly how you need it, whether you’re going for super clean or just balancing out a tough session.
Why it’s great post-workout
The biggest advantage here is control. You can create a high-protein meal, keep fats lower, or add more carbs depending on your workout. It’s also one of the few places where you can easily swap typical sides for something lighter like grilled broccoli.
My go-to order
I usually go for a DIY burger with a protein bun, chicken, all the veggies, and pesto instead of mayo.
If I want the cleanest version, I skip fries and add grilled broccoli on the side, it works surprisingly well.
Best clean option
- Grilled chicken burger
- Add egg + veggies
- Protein bun
- Side of grilled broccoli
- No extra sauces needed
Other great options
- Sweet potato fries (great after a harder workout, just go easy on sauces)
- Vegetarian option: Planted patty + fried egg for extra protein
- If you’re craving beef: try the “Smart Patty” (reduced meat, more sustainable option)
Pro tip: If you still want to enjoy the sauces Le Burger is known for, dipping broccoli instead of fries is a surprisingly good compromise.
Where to train nearby
- FitInn Donauzentrum
- FitInn Kagraner Platz
- McFIT Kagraner Platz
- Donauinsel: perfect for runs, long walks, or outdoor workouts

23rd District: Kenny’s Riverside (Customizable Post-Workout Bowl)
If you want full control over your meal after a workout, this is one of the best options in Vienna.
Why it’s great post-workout
Kenny’s is one of those post-workout restaurants in Vienna where the menu actually works in your favor. The biggest advantage here is customization. You can build a bowl with exactly the balance you need: lean protein, carbs, healthy fats, and plenty of micronutrients. It’s also a great option if you’re focusing on clean eating without sacrificing taste.
My go-to order
I usually build a bowl with quinoa and spinach as a base, sous-vide chicken, and a mix of vegetables like edamame, cucumber, and carrot.
For dressing, I go light, usually something soy or sesame-based.

It’s simple, filling, and easy to adjust depending on your workout.
Where to train nearby
- Riverside area for walks or light movement
- Liesingbachweg: great for running or longer walks
- Local gyms like Speedfit Vienna 23 – Riverside
